A new 1.3 mm dual-polarization receiver and coupling optics have been developed and installed at the LMT by students and researchers from INAOE, UMass, the MIT Haystack Observatory, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, and MERLAB. This receiver enables the LMT to participate in VLBI observations as part of the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a project that seeks to directly probe the event horizon of the super massive black hole in the center of our galaxy.
